A new online training programme from the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and Canada’s Durham College could help learners develop the skills needed to deliver the next generation of renewable energy projects.

The Renewable Energy Project Management module is the first initiative from the international partnership.

Developed at the UHI Moray, the course combines academics and expert insight from energy organisations including Ontario Power Generation, Statkraft and SSE Renewables.

Professor Su Bryan, Dean of Science, Health and Environment at UHI, said: “This exciting module draws on the strength of international collaboration in addressing the skills needed for the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“The programme will be delivered by our specialist colleagues at UHI Moray and reflects the collective expertise and shared ambition of the UHI partnership to provide accessible, high-quality education with global relevance.”

For both students and energy professionals, the module offers a practical introduction to the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects.

Topics include stakeholder engagement, budgeting, risk management and project planning. Learners can also use industry-standard tools to build on skills.

With demand increasing for professionals capable of turning clean energy plans into operational projects, industry-focused training could play a key role in supporting the UK and Canada’s low carbon and net zero targets.

The course can be completed in less than 12 weeks and registration is now open, with the first students able to begin from the 7th September.
