Harris Maxus UK has brought former country manager Richard Chamberlain back to the brand as sales director, with responsibility for sales performance and development across its dealer network.

The appointment strengthens the commercial vehicle manufacturer’s leadership team as it seeks to expand its UK customer base and support Harris Group’s ambition of building a £1 billion turnover business by 2030.

Chamberlain will report into Gary Brown, who was recently promoted from sales director to commercial operations director with wider responsibility for Maxus sales, aftersales and related business activities.

For Maxus dealers, the appointment puts day-to-day sales and network leadership in the hands of an executive who already understands the brand, its product strategy and its position within the UK light commercial vehicle market.

Chamberlain returns to Maxus

Chamberlain previously served as Maxus country manager for the UK and Ireland and returns after holding a series of senior manufacturer roles.

His career has included positions as LCV director at Stellantis UK, country manager for Fiat Professional and head of LCV sales at Renault Trucks.

Harris Group said this combination of manufacturer experience and familiarity with Maxus would help the business convert its product and network investment into sustainable sales growth.

Chamberlain said: “I know the Maxus brand well and have always believed there was significant potential here. To now return at such an important stage of its development, and to have the opportunity to help shape the next phase of growth from within the Harris Group, is particularly exciting.

“The product portfolio, the strength of the dealer network and our unwavering focus on customer support, give us a very strong platform. I’m looking forward to working closely with the Harris Maxus team and our dealers to turn that potential into strong, sustainable growth.”

Dealer growth moves up agenda

Chamberlain’s arrival follows a period of leadership restructuring at Harris Maxus UK as the distributor prepares for its next stage of expansion.

Brown’s promotion broadened his remit across the business, while Chamberlain’s appointment restores a dedicated senior focus on dealer sales performance, network development and customer growth.

Brown said: “Richard brings a combination of manufacturer experience, commercial vehicle expertise and, importantly, first-hand knowledge of Maxus. He understands where the brand has come from and, equally, where it’s capable of going. As we build the business towards our wider growth ambitions, having someone of Richard’s experience leading our sales and network operations will be a significant asset.”

He added: “Maxus has already established a strong position in the UK LCV market, but we see considerable headroom for further growth. Richard’s appointment strengthens the team at exactly the right time and gives us the experience and focus we need to continue developing the network, expanding our customer base and making the most of the opportunities ahead.”

Maxus is expected to play a central role in Harris Group’s longer-term growth strategy, with the group continuing to invest in its commercial vehicle operations, dealer network and customer support.
