DSG will close its long-established Morecambe Renault and Dacia dealership on September 30 after failing to find a buyer for the business.
The Fellgate dealership on the White Lund Industrial Estate will cease trading, leaving DSG’s Barrow-in-Furness operation to continue serving customers through its used car and aftersales businesses.
The closure affects a dealership with a history stretching back more than 60 years. Family-owned D Stoker Group, which trades as DSG, says it is one of Renault’s longest-serving UK dealers after taking on the franchise in 1960.
Morecambe has housed the group’s new and used Renault and Dacia sales operations alongside its aftersales facilities. Barrow will remain an authorised repairer for the two brands, but DSG has not announced that new car sales will transfer there.
Morecambe buyer search fails
A DSG spokesman told the Lancashire Guardian: “This has been an extremely difficult decision and we have spent considerable time exploring opportunities for another company to take the business forward, in the hope of protecting the future of the site and retaining our valued team, some of who have served with the company for many decades.
“Sadly, despite these efforts, we have not been able to find a suitable buyer.”
The group did not disclose how many employees would be affected by the closure or provide details of the factors behind its decision to withdraw from Morecambe.
Acknowledging the impact on employees, customers and suppliers, the spokesman said: “Morecambe has been an important part of DSG for many years, and we know this news has not only been disappointing for our colleagues but will be disappointing for our customers and suppliers as well.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to our Morecambe team for their exceptional dedication, loyalty and care, and to sincerely thank our customers and suppliers for choosing DSG and supporting the site over the years. Your custom has always been greatly valued.”
Barrow aftersales to continue
DSG will seek to retain Morecambe customers through its dealership at 1 Ironworks Road in Barrow-in-Furness.
The Barrow business will continue operating as a Renault and Dacia authorised repairer, providing manufacturer warranty work alongside servicing, repairs and MOT testing for vehicles from other brands.
DSG said it was increasing its courtesy car fleet to make the longer journey more manageable for customers transferring from Morecambe. A driver drop-off service into Barrow town centre will also be available while vehicles are being worked on.
The spokesman said: “We appreciate that travelling to Barrow may be a change for some customers, so we are increasing our courtesy car fleet to help make their visit as convenient as possible. We will continue to support our customers from DSG Barrow.”
Vehicle sales will continue at Barrow with a selection of nearly new and low-mileage Renault, Dacia and Hyundai models alongside used cars from other manufacturers.
The Morecambe closure follows an earlier change to DSG’s representation when the group announced that it was no longer be authorised to sell new Hyundai vehicles or undertake Hyundai warranty work from June 1, 2026.
