RAC Warranty has added battery failure cover to its EV One policy for cars up to 12 years old with a maximum of 80,000 miles.
The revised warranty is available through RAC car dealers and covers battery electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid models.
Policies can run for up to 48 months, with claims capped at the vehicle’s purchase price.
EV One also covers a range of standard vehicle components at the company’s highest level of cover.
A battery is considered to have failed when it cannot receive charge, hold charge or discharge to propel the vehicle. Any replacement component must provide at least the battery’s energy capacity immediately before failure, taking account of its age and mileage.
Claims can be made at the supplying dealership or, subject to policy terms, at other approved repairers.
Lee Coomber, RAC client director at Assurant, which partners with the RAC in the aftersales market, said: “EV One was introduced in 2020 as an early specialist EV warranty product and has helped us build strong insight into what car buyers are looking for when purchasing an electrified vehicle.
“While concerns around battery failure have eased somewhat over the years, it remains an important consideration for many EV buyers, particularly those purchasing an EV for the first time.
“With this extension to existing EV One cover, we are providing additional reassurance for customers over a longer period of vehicle ownership.”
EV warranty sales exceed previous year’s total
Coomber said RAC Warranty’s EV policy sales in the first six months of 2026 exceeded its total for 2025 as more electric vehicles entered the used car market.
He said: “EV warranties now account for a significant proportion of our warranty sales and are continuing to increase strongly in the second half of this year.
“Rapidly increasing numbers of used EVs are entering the market at just the moment when there is growing consumer interest in lower running-cost vehicles.”
RAC Warranty products are sold exclusively through the RAC Dealer Network, which includes 1,500 used car, van, motorcycle and motorhome dealers across the UK, spanning independents, franchised dealers and car supermarkets.
The products are underwritten and administered by Assurant.
