Amazon is backing almost 1GW of wind power capacity in Sweden after signing agreements supporting four projects with a combined capacity of nearly 200MW.
The latest power purchase agreements (PPAs) bring the company’s Swedish wind portfolio to around 985MW across nine utility-scale projects.
The four projects are located across central and southern Sweden, including the 132MW Fageråsen, Boarp, Dållebo and Fågelås projects.
Together the portfolio is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual demand of more than 350,000 households once fully operational.
The projects are being developed by renewable energy companies OX2 and Eolus, with the three operational developments already supplying electricity to the Swedish grid.
Amazon said its Swedish investments are intended to support the addition of new carbon-free generation to the grid as part of its wider target of reaching net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040.
The agreements come as corporate demand for renewable electricity continues to grow, supporting investment in new generation capacity across Europe.
