AM100 dealership group Greenhous is preparing to install BYD’s ultra-fast Flash Charging technology at its Telford dealership, making it one of the first sites in the UK to install the system.
The charger is due to be installed later this year at the group’s purpose-built BYD showroom at Trench Lock in Hadley.
BYD says its latest Flash Charging technology can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single connector, allowing a compatible vehicle fitted with its Blade Battery 2.0 technology to increase its charge from 5% to 70% in five minutes.
A charge from 10% to 97% can be completed in nine minutes, according to the manufacturer, bringing the charging experience closer to the time required to refuel a petrol or diesel vehicle.
Flash charging becomes dealership asset
The planned installation will give Greenhous an opportunity to demonstrate BYD’s latest charging technology directly to customers as the Chinese manufacturer expands its UK retail network.
It could also make charging infrastructure a more prominent part of the dealership experience, allowing customers to see how faster charging could affect the practicality of electric vehicle ownership.
BYD’s Flash Charging system is designed to work alongside high-capacity energy storage, reducing the level of immediate power required from the local grid while still providing very high charging speeds.
Greenhous invests in BYD facility
The new BYD dealership has opened within Greenhous’ existing dealership site, which is also home to Peugeot Commercials, Citroën, Leapmotor and Vauxhall.
Greenhous described the purpose-built facility as a significant investment and said it reflected growing demand for electric vehicles in the region.
The showroom includes an interactive technology hub with large displays and a cutaway model of BYD’s Blade Battery.
It also features a dedicated customer hospitality lounge, called the Dream Bar, and an indoor vehicle handover area.
Greenhous is offering new and used BYD vehicles alongside servicing and MOT facilities from the Telford site.
