Proposed arrangements have been publicised in an attempt to improve how asset information is stored, shared and accessed across UK, by Ofgem.
Their new consultation sets out a proposed framework for a ‘Central Asset Register (CAR)’, which would result in one database to create ease of access to information.
Ofgem are seeking views on the proposed framework for a CAR, including the outcomes, use cases, design principles and minimum functional requirements it should support, as well as the shortlisted delivery options.
Organisations are taking increasingly prioritised approaches to mapping, compiling and rounding up information into databases, for the benefit of industry professionals.
Last month, the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) revealed it had mapped more than 3.2 million kilometres of buried pipes and cables, bringing together data from more than 400 asset owners and covering over 80% of known underground infrastructure.
Ofgem’s proposed CAR reflects a similar push towards making critical energy asset information easier to access and share across the industry.
To contribute to the consultation as a distribution network operator, or spokesperson for NESO, Elexon, ElectraLink or flexibility service providers in particular, see Ofgem’s website.
