A new community share offer is aiming to fund the UK’s first community-owned battery linked to a solar park, supporting emissions reduction and more efficient use of renewable energy.
Low Carbon Hub is inviting investment in battery storage at Ray Valley solar park near Bicester, enabling surplus clean electricity to be stored and used when demand is higher.
The project is designed to reduce wasted renewable energy and displace more carbon-intensive electricity, improving both system efficiency and local sustainability outcomes.
Ray Valley, one of the UK’s largest community-owned solar parks, already generates enough electricity to power around 7,000 homes, with battery integration expected to strengthen its impact.
The battery is forecast to save around 809MWh of clean electricity annually and deliver an additional 102 tonnes of carbon savings each year.
Dr Barbara Hammond MBE, CEO, Low Carbon Hub says: “Projects like this create energy we can all feel good about. This share offer gives people the chance to invest in and co-own vital clean energy infrastructure which is taking action on climate change.
“Investors get a modest return on their investment and will see profits invested in other low carbon projects in the community. It’s a great time to strengthen an existing, proven solar energy system at Ray Valley with additional battery storage, and keep it working hard for our communities.”
