Businesses have saved 10.4 billion litres of water in the last five years by working with water retailer Wave. That’s equivalent to around 4,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
By using Wave’s High Consumption Alerts, organisations could detect and act on unnoticed leaks and quickly prevent water wastage.
Lucy Darch, CEO of Wave, said: “Efficiency isn’t something we see as another business objective – it’s fundamental to the way we think.
“As demand for water continues to grow, we’re focused on helping customers make better use of the resources available while supporting the long-term resilience of the water sector.”
Pressure on UK water resources continues to grow, with an estimated 5 billion litres extra to be needed per day by 2055.
Consumers were able to save over one billion litres more than Wave’s initial target of 9.6 billion.
Wave have now launched Water Efficiency Services (WES), created to progress the UK’s long-term water efficiency goals and practical water-saving programmes across the water sector.
The water saving comes during three months of extreme heat particularly in the South of England leading to hosepipe bans for millions.
