Volkswagen has revealed the all-electric ID. Polo with up to 282 miles of range, new tech and pricing from €24,995 (£21,654) in Germany.
The new model marks a shift for the Polo nameplate, which has sold more than 20 million units globally, as Volkswagen expands its entry-level electric line-up.
The ID. Polo will be offered with three power outputs of 85kW, 99kW and 155kW, and two battery sizes. The larger 52kWh battery delivers a WLTP range of up to 282 miles, while smaller battery versions offer up to 204 miles.
All variants support DC rapid charging, with 10% to 80% charging possible in around 23 to 24 minutes depending on battery size.

The model is based on a front-wheel-drive platform designed to maximise interior space. Volkswagen said this allows for improved packaging compared with the combustion engine Polo, with boot capacity increased to 441 litres, rising to 1,240 litres with rear seats folded.
Inside, the ID. Polo features a 10-inch digital cockpit and a 13-inch infotainment screen, alongside physical controls and updated software. Higher specification versions offer additional features including advanced driver assistance systems and upgraded lighting technology.
Thomas Schäfer, chief executive of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said the model brings a core nameplate into the electric era.
He said: “The ID. Polo brings a Volkswagen bestseller into the electric age.
“For decades, the Polo has been part of people’s everyday lives.
“With the ID. Polo, we are making electric mobility accessible to many more people: with clear and timeless design, intuitive operation, strong quality and technologies from higher segments. A genuine Volkswagen just like our customers expect from us.”
The ID. Polo also introduces features including vehicle-to-load functionality and optional assisted driving systems with traffic light recognition.
Pre-sales have opened in Germany, with entry pricing from €24,995 for future base models.
UK pricing, specification and availability will be confirmed at a later date.
