Used hybrid sales reached a record high in March, with demand continuing to accelerate across the UK market.

Data from MarketCheck shows 41,136 used hybrids were sold during the month, the highest monthly total on record and up from the previous peak of 36,832 in January 2026.

The growth highlights a significant shift in the used market, with monthly hybrid volumes now far exceeding 2023 levels, when sales typically ranged between 14,000 and 18,000 units.

MarketCheck said hybrids are benefiting from buyers seeking lower running costs and improved fuel efficiency without committing fully to electric vehicles.

A turning point for used hybrid sales

Alastair Campbell, external sales partner at MarketCheck UK, said March marked a turning point for the segment.

He said: “March was a landmark month for the used hybrid market, with sales reaching a new all-time high of more than 41,000 vehicles.”

Campbell said that hybrids are attracting a broad range of buyers: “Hybrids are proving particularly attractive to buyers who want lower running costs and better efficiency, but are not yet ready to move fully electric. They offer a practical middle ground, and that is clearly being reflected in the sales figures.”

Campbell said recent market conditions have accelerated demand and that the pace of growth over the last two years has been “remarkable”

He added: “Events in Iran have clearly played a role, with rising fuel prices forcing buyers to look at alternatives to petrol and diesel vehicles.”
