The battery sector is being urged to move from innovation into real-world deployment as industry leaders prepare to gather in Leicester next week.
Innovate UK Business Connect’s Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Network will host its third Cross-Sector Battery Showcase at De Montfort University on 18 June.
The event will bring together battery developers, manufacturers, investors, researchers, supply chain firms and end-users to examine how the UK can scale battery technologies across key industries.
Batteries have been identified as a priority area in the UK’s Advanced Manufacturing Plan while the government’s Clean Power 2030 mission is increasing demand for electrification, storage and flexible energy systems.
The UK has built strong research and innovation capability in battery technology but the next challenge is manufacturing scale-up, commercial adoption and stronger domestic supply chains.
The showcase will focus on how sectors including energy, aerospace and defence can deploy battery systems in practical applications.
It will also look at where technologies are ready, where collaboration is still needed and how the UK can build more resilient supply chains to support growth and security of supply.
The event will include industry-led discussions, networking and an exhibition, with attention also given to funding and investment opportunities across the battery ecosystem.
That includes support linked to the Battery Innovation Programme and wider Innovate UK activity.
