Kemi Badenoch had a fiery response to the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget. But what did she say about his energy decisions?

When making his speech, John Healey emphasised Labour’s commitment to the 2030 clean power target, which the leader of the Conservatives claimed were partly to blame for the economy “coming to a halt”.

She said the government had “made energy expensive with their net zero policies”.

In her closing remarks Mrs Badenoch said the UK should “live within its means”  by scrapping the carbon tax, claiming it would bring energy bills down and that it’s “what people want”.

Her critiques didn’t stop at bills, as she questioned Labour’s earlier job pledges.

She said: “They promised to create 650,000 clean energy jobs. Where are they? Nothing has been created except unemployment.”

There was some rare common ground found between the two parties, as the Tory leader commended the Chancellor on his fuel duty cut decision.

She said: “I’m glad to see that he has agreed with our campaign on the previous Chancellor’s fuel duty rise. Motorists will be pleased. That would have inflicted real pain especially while petrol prices are so high.”

Just last week Mrs Badenoch criticised the time it took for the Energy Secretary to make a decision on the Jackdaw gas field. There was no mention or announcement relating to the Rosebank oil field in the budget, a topic which the leader of the opposition also didn’t comment on in her response.
