BMW’s Neue Klasse models are accelerating the manufacturer’s electric sales mix, giving its dealer network a growing pipeline of customers as battery-electric vehicles move into core model families.

The BMW Group delivered its two-millionth fully electric vehicle during August, having reached the milestone almost 13 years after the original BMW i3 went on sale in late 2013.

Including plug-in hybrids, BMW Group has now delivered around 3.5 million electrified vehicles worldwide. More than one in four vehicles sold by the group during the first half of 2026 was electrified. Fully electric vehicles accounted for around 28% of BMW Group’s European sales during the first half of 2026.

The more immediate dealer opportunity is being driven by Neue Klasse. Rising availability of the new BMW iX3 helped increase the group’s European battery-electric sales by 38% during the second quarter, reaching 81,445 vehicles.

iX3 becomes a core sales driver

Since its launch, the iX3 has accounted for one in every three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe.

Within the wider X3 model family, one in every two European orders is now for the fully electric iX3. This indicates that electric demand is becoming central to one of BMW’s established model lines rather than remaining confined to a specialist EV segment.

For dealers, the shift increases the importance of being able to compare electric and combustion-powered versions within the same model family, including their running costs, charging requirements and suitability for different customer journeys.

BMW is also approaching 100,000 orders for the iX3 as production and availability continue to increase.

Jochen Goller, member of the board of management of BMW AG responsible for customer, brand and sales operations, said: “Selling two million BEVs underlines how BMW and MINI models are winning over customers worldwide. In Europe, the positive development has continued since the market launch of the BMW iX3, and we will soon be reaching the milestone of 100,000 new orders. This shows the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse for the ongoing ramp-up of electromobility at the BMW Group.”

New i3 adds dealer momentum

BMW Group Plant Munich began series production of the new BMW i3, the second Neue Klasse model, during August. BMW said strong initial demand was resulting in a steep production ramp-up, adding another electric model to the sales pipeline created by the iX3.

Goller said: “The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its market launch.”

The two-millionth fully electric vehicle delivered by BMW Group was an i5 M60 xDrive produced at the manufacturer’s Dingolfing plant and handed over to a customer in Spain.
