Car dealers can explore how to build electric vehicle buyer confidence and assess used battery values at Automotive Management Live on November 11.

Two dedicated sessions at Birmingham’s NEC will address practical questions facing dealerships: how to help private buyers choose between powertrains, and how battery condition should influence used EV buying and pricing decisions.

The discussions will bring together dealer leaders, manufacturers, charging and consumer specialists, and battery diagnostics experts.

Tim Rose, Automotive Management editor, said: “Dealers can only control the controllables. The best operators are already doing a fantastic job of guiding customers with plug-in vehicles, managing the demands of the Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) mandate and navigating the evolving used EV market.

“Delegates attending the show will hear from leading experts in their field from OEMs, franchised dealers and independent garages that can offer guidance on all things EV.”

Helping private buyers choose their next car

“EVs and hybrids – how you can better help private buyers pick their next car”, sponsored by Pod will examine how dealerships can simplify an increasingly complex decision.

With petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models competing for attention, sales teams need to understand customers’ requirements and explain the practical differences between the options.

The discussion will explore how dealers can build confidence around charging, range and everyday ownership, while balancing customer needs with commercial pressures and the requirements of the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate.

The session is being chaired by Michelle Breffitt, co-founder at Women Drive Electric and panellists include Steve Beattie, deputy UK country manager at BYD; Barry Beeston, senior director of business development at Pod; Shab Chowdhury, franchise director at Glyn Hopkin and Dr Vicky Edmonds, chief executive of EVA England.

For franchised and independent dealers, the session will focus on helping customers make an informed choice as more models and brands enter the market.

What is a healthy battery worth?

The growing used EV market will feature in “How much does battery health change a used EV’s value?”, sponsored by AVILOO, bringing together perspectives from used EV sales, franchised dealer aftersales and battery testing.

Richard Norris, managing director of Drive Green, and Ben Holdaway, managing director of Abbey Park Cars, will share their experience of growing demand, stocking decisions and the questions buyers ask about battery condition. They will join Neil Tonks, aftersales director at Pentagon Motor Group, and Stefan Holzschuh, teamlead global reseller sales at Aviloo.

The session will start with a comparison: three otherwise identical used EVs with excellent, average or poor battery health. How much should those differences change a dealer’s buying offer and the price a customer is willing to pay?

The panel will explore how battery testing can inform appraisals and pricing, alongside the aftersales implications of identifying battery deterioration, assessing potential repairs and supporting customers during ownership.

Drawing on their experience of selling and supporting used EVs, the speakers will discuss how dealers can use battery-health information to make confident buying decisions, explain a vehicle’s condition clearly and build buyer confidence as the market grows.

Rose said: “Together, the sessions will address customer confidence at both ends of the EV market, from choosing a first electrified vehicle to understanding the condition and value of a used model.

“Delegates will be able to explore how better advice and clearer information can support buying decisions while helping dealerships manage commercial risk.”
