Over 500,000 applications to connect household low-carbon devices have been processed on Energy Networks Association’s (ENA) Connect Direct since its launch in 2024.
Almost 78,000 new applications were made in the last three months including EV charging points, solar panels, heat pumps and batteries.
The service removes paper forms and simplifies the process for installers who need to obtain permission from the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to connect the lower voltage devices.
The most recent update allows installers to submit applications for low-carbon devices such as electric boilers and air con units.
Dan Clarke, Head of Low Carbon Technologies at Energy Networks Association, said: “Initiatives like auto-approval for eligible applications is one way in which ENA Connect Direct is further speeding up connections for customers, which is helping to accelerate low-carbon technology up-take overall.”
The platform is capable of issuing automatic approvals through AI tools. On average the system is auto-approving up to 40% of applications.
The milestone follows the UK surpassing 269,000 solar panel installations in 2025, which was the highest total ever recorded in one year.
