The number of used hybrid vehicles advertised in the UK has more than doubled in just over three years, reaching a record 99,237 in September.
MarketCheck said September’s total was the highest monthly figure in its records and left the market only 763 vehicles short of the 100,000 threshold.
Used hybrid stock has increased by 55,662 vehicles, or almost 128%, from the 43,575 advertised during May 2023.
The September figure also surpassed the previous monthly record set in March 2026, following some fluctuations in advertised stock during the summer.
Hybrid choice expands rapidly
The increase reflects the growing number of electrified vehicles entering the second-hand market and gives dealers access to a substantially larger pool of hybrid stock.
It also means retailers will need to monitor model-level demand, pricing and stock turn as greater supply increases competition between comparable vehicles.
However, the MarketCheck figures measure advertised stock rather than sales, consumer demand or days to sell. They do not establish whether demand for used hybrids is expanding at the same rate as supply.
Alastair Campbell of MarketCheck UK commented: “The growth in the used hybrid market over the past three years has been remarkable. We’ve gone from around 43,500 vehicles on the market in May 2023 to almost 100,000 today.
“September represents another important milestone, with used hybrid stock reaching its highest level since our records began.
Dealers face changing stock mix
“For consumers, that means significantly more choice when considering a hybrid vehicle. For retailers, it demonstrates just how quickly the used market is changing as more electrified vehicles enter the second-hand sector.
“We’re now approaching the point where 100,000 used hybrids could be available on the UK market at any one time, something that would have seemed a long way off just a few years ago.”
The expanding pool of used hybrids creates additional sourcing opportunities for dealers, but the commercial impact will depend on whether retail demand and transaction volumes keep pace with the growth in advertised supply.
