At an alarming rate, one in six STEM professionals are seeing colleagues leave after AI changed their work ‘beyond recognition’.

Despite industry fears that AI is replacing people, it seems the truth lies in AI capabilities and what that means for real employee’s work.

However this workplace turnover is not a sustainable (nor replaceable) one, as almost half of UK STEM professionals say their organisation has struggled to replace specialists who left in the past year.

More than a third in a survey, conducted by STEM workforce consultancy SThree, believe their organisation is introducing technologies (such as AI) too quickly to fully consider the impact on people’s roles.

Rakesh Patel, UK Managing Director at SThree, said: “As industries change, employers must adapt in a way that uses AI where it genuinely belongs and enables workers to use their expertise in a fulfilling way.

During the upheaval of employees, around one in seven saw colleagues leave for AI-related reasons linked to reduced career progression, while one in eight cited unsustainable workloads.
