Volkswagen’s new ID. Tiguan will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 in early 2027, with European prices equivalent to approximately £36,200.

Pre-sales open in Germany and several other European markets on October 13, with prices starting at €42,695.

UK pricing and order dates have yet to be confirmed, but pricing it at under £40,000 will certainly help UK Volkswagen dealers compete with a very croweded electric SUV market.

The electric SUV will be sold alongside the existing Tiguan, which offers petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. More than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 models have been built.

Three powertrain options

Volkswagen will offer three versions, with a claimed WLTP range of up to 600km, equivalent to approximately 373 miles, depending on specification.

Towing capacity reaches 1,800kg with the smaller battery and 2,000kg with the 77kWh battery. Storage includes a 32-litre front compartment and a boot offering up to 534 litres.

The announced trim line-up comprises Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.

Version Power Battery capacity
Rear-wheel drive 190PS 58kWh
Rear-wheel drive 286PS 77kWh
4MOTION all-wheel drive 299PS 77kWh

Physical controls return

The redesigned interior introduces physical buttons for key climate functions and the steering wheel, alongside a centre console controller for audio volume and track selection.

A 10-inch driver display and 15-inch infotainment screen are joined by an optional 12-inch passenger display. A privacy mode prevents its content being visible to the driver.

Standard one-pedal driving is complemented by optional Connected Travel Assist, with assisted motorway lane changes and traffic light recognition.

Other options include front seats with massage and ventilation, a Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof and vehicle-to-load functionality for powering external electrical devices.

The ID. Tiguan will be built in Emden, Germany, using Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform.
