The first 17 electric vehicle chargers have gone live across Tower Hamlets as part of a rollout of more than 70 charge points at 35 sites in the London borough.
The project, delivered by EV charger company Believ and Tower Hamlets Council, will provide rapid and ultra-rapid charging for residents, commuters, taxis and fleet vehicles.
Tower Hamlets has high demand for public charging, with around 93% of homes lacking off-street parking.
The chargers are being installed on-street with sites including White Horse Lane, Prusom Street, Plumbers Row, Alfred Street, Stepney Green and Chrisp Street.
The rollout includes a mix of dedicated EV bays and standard parking spaces with charging access, aiming to expand charging availability without significantly reducing existing parking.
Believ is funding the project, which the companies say will make it easier for drivers without private parking to charge vehicles locally.
