Royal Mail have unveiled its 9000th electric van, which will join the 120 EVs the Colchester Delivery Office already operates.
Nearly a third of its delivery routes are zero-emission, with 44 depots now fully electric. Royal Mail says EVs offer savings on running, servicing and maintenance costs over the lifecycle of a van when compared to their diesel equivalents.
Stuart Murphy, Royal Mail’s Head of Fleet Transformation, said: “Reaching 9,000 electric vehicles is a major milestone as we work to transform our fleet.
“This shift is helping us cut emissions while delivering a better service for our customers, with quieter, cleaner deliveries in communities across the UK.”
The milestone strengthens the position of the vans as the largest fleet of electric delivery vehicles in the UK. It also takes Royal Mail a step closer to its 2040 Net Zero target.
