Renault is sending more than 100 left-hand-drive examples of the new Twingo E-Tech electric to its UK dealership network ahead of order books opening later this year.
The cars, all finished in Absolute Green, have been brought over from France as a dedicated batch and are being distributed to dealerships across the country on transporters carrying only Twingo models.
The vehicles will be used for static displays, giving customers the opportunity to examine the electric city car at their local dealership despite right-hand-drive UK production models not yet being available.
Renault said the nationwide preview would allow retailers to answer customer questions and build interest ahead of the Twingo’s formal market launch.
Readying for market launch
Adam Wood, managing director of Renault UK, said introducing left-hand-drive display cars to retailers would provide customers with a convenient way to experience the model’s design, packaging and character before it goes on sale.
He said: “Interest in Renault EVs is soaring, with Twingo really grabbing people’s attention and following in the footsteps of the Renault 5 and Renault 4.
“Such is the enthusiasm ahead of its official launch, that introducing LHD static display cars to our retailers is a great way to answer customers’ questions and give them an early and highly convenient way to experience Twingo’s unmistakeable style, clever packaging and sheer personality.”
The retailer rollout follows appearances at rnlt London Battersea, maison renault on Oxford Street and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Customers can already pay £100 for a Twingo R Pass, which provides priority access to ordering before the general public as well as model updates, a concierge service, a miniature Twingo and a green Renault key cover.
The Twingo E-Tech electric has a 27.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a 60kW electric motor and a targeted WLTP range of up to 163 miles. Renault is targeting a UK starting price below £20,000.
The model also features independent sliding rear seats and will offer technology including one-pedal driving and, depending on specification, the OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in.
