Echelon Data Centres has announced plans to establish Ireland’s first Green Energy Park at its DUB20 campus in Arklow, Co Wicklow.
The project aligns with the Irish Government’s Large Energy Users Action Plan, which aims to ensure energy intensive industries support renewable deployment and grid stability.
Green Energy Parks bring together large energy users such as data centres with renewable power generation, energy storage and grid supporting infrastructure.
The DUB20 campus will include a data centre connected to offshore wind power, onsite solar generation and battery energy storage.
The development will also feature two onsite energy centres, including one capable of exporting electricity to the national grid during periods of low renewable output.
Echelon said the site will connect to up to 800MW of offshore wind energy from Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2. Solar PV systems at the campus could also generate more than 6,000MWh of electricity annually.
The project forms part of Echelon’s €4.2 billion investment in the DUB20 and DUB30 facilities in Wicklow, with construction expected to complete by 2028.
Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, said: “This is exactly the kind of forward-planned, sustainable development we want to see delivered under LEAP.”
