Luxury used car dealer ZG Prestige is planning to relocate to a former Travis Perkins property in Bolton, creating a larger showroom and adding a four-bay MOT centre.

The independent dealership has applied to change the use of the Bark Street premises from a builders’ merchant to a car showroom.

The application also includes a two-storey front extension, external vehicle sales area, customer parking and associated works.

ZG Prestige currently operates from Shepherd Cross Street in Bolton – a four minute drive away – and specialises in prestige used cars from manufacturers including Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Land Rover and Audi.

Larger home for online dealer

The proposed relocation would give the dealership more space to display, photograph, prepare and hand over vehicles.

Plans for the building include a showroom, offices, photographic booth and storage facilities alongside a secure vehicle compound.

Part of the existing first floor would be removed to create a larger ground-floor display area, with a glass balustrade providing access to administrative facilities above.

The building would also be overclad in black, with gold detailing around the main entrance and signage reflecting the dealership’s prestige positioning.

ZG Prestige predominantly generates sales leads online, making the property’s accessibility and capacity for vehicle presentation central to the proposed move.

“Visits to the site, inspections, collections will provide a great destination, just off the main roadway network, and ease of access to the major road networks from the A6, A666 and motorways, M6 and M61,” it said in its planning application to Bolton Council.

Four-bay workshop planned

Following the establishment of the showroom, ZG Prestige intends to develop a four-bay MOT and service centre at the property.

The workshop would add an aftersales operation to the dealership’s vehicle sales business, giving it an additional revenue stream and an opportunity to maintain relationships with customers after handover.

The planning report said: “The proposals will significantly enhance the appearance of the site that is located in an identified regeneration area of Bolton town centre.”

Bolton Council will decide whether the dealership conversion and extension can proceed.
