Vik Hill, the long serving chief executive of Santander Consumer UK, is retiring this week after more than two decades heading the automotive finance business.

Adam Goldhagen, currently the chief operating officer, will step in as interim CEO until a permanent successor is appointed.

Hill’s journey began in 1982 with Lombard Motor Finance. He continued with First National Motor Finance after Lombard was acquired by Abbey National in 1999, and in 2005, he launched Santander Consumer Finance UK following Santander’s acquisition of Abbey National.

Hill also spearheaded the integration of GE Capital’s automotive business, elevating Santander Consumer UK to its current leading position.

“Everyone at Santander Consumer UK, both past and present, is immensely grateful to Vik for all that he has done for the business and for making it the company that it is today,” said Goldhagen.

“Since our inception in 2005, Vik has been the driving force behind the company’s development and growth. Under his guidance, Santander Consumer UK has expanded its offerings, consistently maintained a leadership position, and established a solid reputation for excellence and reliability.

“Whilst he will undoubtedly be missed, we all wish him a long, enjoyable, and well-deserved retirement,” Goldhagen added.
