Buyer demand for used electric and hybrid cars continued to outpace dealer supply in July, according to the latest Cazoo Market View analysis.

Searches for used EVs on Cazoo doubled year-on-year, while hybrid searches rose by 14%. However, EVs and hybrids accounted for just 17.8% of dealer stock, up slightly from 17.4% in July 2025 but down from a record 21.3% in March 2026. EVs represented 6.9% of listings, compared with 6.5% in June and 6.5% a year earlier.

Hybrid stock fell from 11.2% in June to 10.9% in July, matching its share in the same month last year. Petrol and diesel cars continued to dominate dealer stock at 51.5% and 30.7% respectively.

Used EV searches double

Lucy Tugby, chief marketing officer at Cazoo, said: “Used EV and hybrid consideration continues to grow, as witnessed by the increased volume of ad views we are tracking, however buyer interest is outpacing supply despite dealers maintaining robust overall stock levels in July.”

Average advertised prices for used EVs and hybrids were almost identical at £24,250 and £24,259 respectively. Across the wider used car market, the average advertised price fell by 0.4% during July to £17,397. It was the third consecutive monthly decline and left average prices 0.7% below their level in July 2025.

Cazoo said the reductions remained modest and reflected a continuing realignment after prices rose several times during 2025, reaching £18,102 in December. Apart from April, average used car prices have fallen in every month of 2026.

Franchised prices fall fastest

Prices declined across every vehicle age group in July except for cars more than 10 years old. The average price of these older vehicles increased for the ninth consecutive month to £7,685, up 0.7% month-on-month and 5% year-on-year. Cars aged between 10 and 12 years also attracted the highest number of online searches.

Average prices at independent dealers remained unchanged at £14,257, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.5%, or £1,233. Used car supermarkets increased their average price by 2% during July to £16,437, although this remained 1% below the previous year.

Franchised dealers experienced the sharpest decline, with average advertised prices falling by 1.2% to £22,266. This was 7.6%, or £1,842, lower than in July 2025.

In-demand models

The Ford Focus recorded the largest monthly price increase, with petrol models aged between eight and 10 years rising by 7.3% to £10,886. Petrol Vauxhall Corsa models aged between six and eight years recorded the largest decline, falling by 2.9% to £11,770.

Tugby added: “July’s used car market was stable with modest price fluctuations in line with trends we have observed since the beginning of the year.

“In tandem with this softening we have tracked increased YoY searches for many value brands, including Renault (up 97%), Fiat (up 50%) and Ford (up 34%), evidence that affordability is still an important focus for many used car buyers.”

Average dealer inventory increased marginally to 57 vehicles in July, compared with 56 in June and 55 a year earlier. Used car supermarkets held an average of 215 vehicles, up 2.1% month-on-month and 13.7% year-on-year.

Independent dealers averaged 42 vehicles, one more than both June and July 2025. Franchised dealers held an average of 62 vehicles, unchanged from June and one fewer than a year earlier.
