Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and GB Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman met in Baku to discuss the nations work together in terms of future energy projects and collaboration.
The meeting is said to have covered the expansion of energy partnership from fossil fuels to renewable energy – in particular the Jabrayil solar project with bp and the electrification of oil and gas infrastructure.
The meeting also focused on green energy corridors and interconnectors, including the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor and opportunities for UK companies to participate.
The conversation surrounding this will continue during the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, expanding energy, trade and investment through new projects.
Azerbaijan has significant potential for around 157GW of offshore wind, particularly in and around the Caspian Sea, whilst the UK Government has previously highlighted Azerbaijan’s renewable potential and its plans to increase renewable generation.
On the flip side, The UK could offer Azerbaijan further support on renewable development, following years of expertise – this has already been put into practise when the UK supported an offshore wind roadmap for Azerbaijan.
