President Trump has said that the North Sea is a ‘gold mine’ and heavily advised new leader Andy Burnham to use it for energy, in an interview with GB News.
The US leader showed his love for fossil fuels throughout, suggesting that it is the cheapest option for the UK.
He said: “Fossil fuel is the most powerful and the least expensive and you can totally watch the environment, it’s very safe.
“Energy you can solve by going to the North Sea and becoming rich.”
Trump went on to share his concern surrounding the UK’s spending, as he suggested the country is helping Norway become richer by buying oil from there.
He said: “You can have a rich nation or a poor nation. You have a rich nation if you do the North Sea.
“The great North Sea oil is phenomenal and the lunatics would have you believe ‘oh there’s not that much left’.”
The President went on to express his beliefs regarding wind power which, in 2025, the UK generated 30% of its electricity from.
Describing his experience flying into Heathrow airport, he explained how upset he was when he saw wind farms.
He said: “It’s a big hoax, you people can’t afford to pay and it’s weak energy, its bad energy the most expensive energy there is, is windmills.
“They have windmills all over the place and it’s so bad. They kill all your birds, they ruin your sightlines.”
Throughout the interview Trump also alluded, many times, to climate targets and international climate agreements being a ‘big hoax’.
