Following the announcement that the energy price cap will rise by 4% in October, many households are concerned about increased bills.
Rob Nezard, heating expert at UK Radiators, has listed the top three things Brits can do to prevent wasting their energy.
- Bleed radiators before heating season
Trapped air can stop a radiator from heating evenly so it is important people bleed them before the colder months, when heating their home is essential.
Feeling the top and bottom of the radiators can also give an indication towards the need to bleed it. If it is cold from the top, trapped air may be preventing circulation.
2. Stop blocking radiators
Mr Nezard advises people to not put sofas and other furniture directly in front of their radiator.
This can also apply to drying clothes on the radiator as these factors both make It difficult to transfer heat into the room.
3. Prevent the heat escaping
Improving the heat retention of a house may not always mean installing better insulation.
Closing doors and using makeshift draft excluders to block any gas will help stop the heat from escaping.
