Hessay Solar, a new 49.9MW solar project in York has began construction after securing planning permission.
The project, ran by Triple Point, covers around 61.3 hectares and is expected to generate enough clean electricity to supply more than 14,000 homes each year.
Jonathan Hick, Head of Energy Transition at Triple Point, said: “Construction has already commenced and we look forward to seeing the site become operational at the end of next year.
“We are particularly pleased that Hessay will deliver an overall Biodiversity Net Gain above the minimum requirement of 10%, a testament to the calibre of the Recurrent Energy development team.”
The project was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) by the UK Government, meaning it must deliver a minimum 10% biodiversity net gain.
However, it is expected to exceed this threshold, delivering a 63% increase in habitat units, a 91% increase in hedgerow units and a 29% increase in river units.
Grid connection is targeted for the second half of 2027.
