The public consultation on the £8.7bn Rosebank oil and gas project has concluded, ahead of a formal decision on the development.
The consultation was conducted by the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED). It follows the conclusion of a similar deliberation for the Jackdaw gas field.
Rosebank and Jackdaw have a combined anticipated investment of £10.8bn, with more than three-quarters expected to be spent in the UK.
The two developments are expected to support at least 3,500 jobs at peak construction, with 880 jobs sustained during production.
Rosebank is projected to produce around 69,000 barrels of oil per day at peak output, equivalent to approximately 10% of anticipated UK Continental Shelf oil production.
The project is expected to generate £24.3bn in gross value for the UK economy over its producing lifetime, including through construction, operations, supply chain activity and wider economic impacts.
The field is located around 130km north-west of Shetland and is planned to be developed in two phases. Subsea wells will be connected to a redeployed floating production, storage and offloading vessel.
Rosebank and Jackdaw are also expected to contribute to domestic energy production, with the developments together projected to account for around 10% of UK natural gas production.
The end of the consultation means the project now moves closer to a formal regulatory decision on its future.
