BYD has confirmed UK market details for the Shark, its first pick-up truck.

The model, which has been on sale in other markets since 2024, is now available to order here with a single plug-in hybrid powertrain option.

This pairs a 1.5-litre, 150PS petrol engine with two electric motors – a 231PS motor on the front axle and a 204PS motor on the rear axle. This allows all-wheel drive, with an EV-first set-up meaning the petrol engine is mainly used as a generator for the electric motors.

A 32.2kWh battery allows an EV-only range of up to 55 miles, with 55kW DC charging allowing a 30-80% charge in 21 minutes, while the model’s weighted WLTP combined fuel economy figure is 80.7mpg.

The Shark features 6.6kW vehicle-to-load capability, allowing on-site equipment to be powered via two plug sockets.

The Shark has a towing capacity of 2500kg and a maximum payload of 790kg.

The model measures 5,457mm in length, with a 3,260mm wheelbase, and offers approach and departure angles of 31 degrees and 19.3 degrees respectively.

One equipment level offered

The Shark is being sold in the UK with a single trim level, with features including a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, sitting alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel.

Other standard equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, sat-nav, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and wireless smartphone charging.

Driver assistance systems include front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, intelligent and adaptive cruise control, front and rear cross traffic alert and braking, forward and rear collision warning, lane departure assistant with emergency lane keeping assist, blind spot detection and hill hold control.

Prices for the Shark start at £47,290. The first deliveries are due in the fourth quarter of 2026.
