Ofgem have appointed Tim Jarvis as its new Chief Executive, following a seven month stint as interim CEO.
Prior to becoming Interim Chief Executive, Mr Jarvis served as Director General for Markets and Ofgem says he has “extensive experience” across government, regulation and public service.
The regulatory body also says that in the coming months, Mr Jarvis will lead the organisation’s work to protect consumers through a “challenging period” as ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are creating a volatile energy market.
Mark McAllister, Chair of Ofgem, said: “Throughout his time as Interim Chief Executive, Tim has demonstrated strong leadership, sound judgement and a deep commitment to Ofgem’s mission. He has led the organisation through an important period for consumers, the energy sector and Ofgem itself”
Mr McAllister also highlighted that the coming winter will be important for many customers and that Ofgem are committed to supporting vulnerable households.
Mr Jarvis said: “We must help create the conditions for the investment, innovation and growth needed to deliver a more secure, affordable and sustainable energy system for the future. Ofgem must evolve too, so we are equipped to meet the scale and pace of the change ahead.”
Energy Secretary, Miatta Fahnbulleh, has also welcomed the appointment and says she looks forward to working together.
