Suzuki has confirmed its next-generation Swift will be priced from £18,699 when it goes on sale in April.

The Japanese supermini has been re-designed and now has a more distinctive look, updated technology and a fresh powertrain.

On the inside, the Swift benefits from an upgraded interior. New switchgear, a new infotainment system and contrasting colours and materials provide a more upmarket look.

Suzuki says the cockpit is designed for an “immersive and ergonomic driving experience”, featuring a centre cluster and controls that are subtly angled toward the driver to ensure ease of use.

The 9-inch central touchscreen integrates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s also remote capability, via the Suzuki Connect App.

A suite of safety and driver assistance systems feature on the new Swift. Among these are adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and a system that can apply more braking if the driver doesn’t push the pedal hard enough to avoid a potential collision.

Powering the Swift is a new 82PS 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. Paired with a 12v mild-hybrid system, the powertrain is said to deliver enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The most efficent model emits 99g/km of CO2 and promises up to 64.2mpg. Suzuki offers the car with a manual transmission or a CVT. There is also an all-wheel-drive version.

Standard equipment for Motion grade includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, sat-nav, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, Adaptive Cruise Control, wireless smartphone link display audio, keyless entry & start, Driver Monitoring System, Dual Sensor Brake Support (upgraded), Lane Departure Warning and Weaving Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor and enhanced Traffic Sign Recognition.

Ultra grade adds automatic air conditioning, rear passenger heater outlet and electric folding door mirrors incorporating side turn indicators.
