National Gas has set out a new strategy after receiving £24 million in investments and is pushing for a further £500 million.
The organisation is now focussed on ensuring a reliable and secure energy system is available across the country. All whilst speeding up the transition to net-zero through lowering methane emissions, decarbonisation and using low-carbon technologies.
Ian Radley, National Gas Chief Commercial Officer said: “Our attention needs to turn to how we maintain our energy security, while keeping bills as low as possible for customers and consumers.”
The strategy also highlights a decline in the diversity of the supply alongside an increasingly high demand for gas.
The investments should improve operations through digitalisation and data-driven decision-making with National Gas saying this will ensure systems are future-ready.
Jodie Giles, Deputy Director for Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund, Innovate UK said: “National Gas’s strategy aligns closely with the Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund challenges we have adopted following the Energy Network Innovation Taskforce recommendations.”
National Gas has so far delivered more than 200 projects, with an investment of £65 million. The strategy also aims to deliver long-term benefits for consumers.
