A new ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub in West London is set to play a major role in supporting cleaner transport and reducing emissions across the capital.
Developed by Fastned and Places for London, the Hanger Lane charging hub will open early next year near the North Circular (A406).
Powered entirely by renewable energy, the site will feature 36 ultra-rapid charging bays capable of adding up to 100 miles of driving range in just five minutes.
The project is designed to support London’s transition to zero-emission transport, particularly in outer London where many households do not have access to private driveways or home charging.
The hub will provide charging access for cars, taxis, vans and commercial fleets, helping reduce reliance on petrol and diesel vehicles.
Alongside charging facilities, the site will include retail space, restrooms, seating areas and a playground, creating a community-focused environment for drivers and local residents. Fastned’s solar canopies will also provide shelter, lighting and additional safety features.
Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy Mete Coban said: “This new, rapid charging hub, the largest in London, will support hundreds of Londoners who have already made the transition to electric vehicles.”
Tom Hurst, UK Country Director at Fastned, added: “In a city where space often limits charging at home or at commercial depots, the Hanger Lane site will help close a critical gap, keeping London moving as the transition to electric gathers pace.”
The hub forms part of wider plans to deliver 25 charging sites across London by 2030.
