London Stadium has generated more than one million kWh of clean energy since the installation of the rooftop solar panels in July 2025.
The output they have generated enough electricity to match the power demand of more than 350 family homes. The panels installation led by Ameresco has also cut 177 tonnes of carbon emissions in the 14 months that it has been operating for.
In June 2026 alone, over 140,000 kWh of energy was produced, meeting 21% of the iconic venue’s demand for that month.
Sacha Giovannoni, Sustainability Manager at London Stadium, said: “This landmark of one million kWh of energy generated is a significant one as we aim to make London Stadium one of the UK’s most sustainable venues.
“It is extremely exciting to be one of the venues leading the way in sustainable venue management, achieving remarkable environmental milestones through innovative technology and strategic partnerships.”
The Stadium, which was built for the 2012 Olympics and is now home to Championship football side West Ham United, features a total 3,350 solar panels on its roof. This makes it one of the largest solar installations in Europe.
The solar panels form part of a wider £4.35 million climate action investment supported by the Mayor of London’s Green Finance Fund, designed to accelerate the capital’s transition to net zero.
