The first illegal waste site has been cleared and shut down since the government’s pledge to tackle waste crime.
In April, the director of Concept Investment Limited was ordered to remove waste from the land in Sheffield and has now been ordered to pay fines totalling more than £20,000.
The area was also cleared, including the removal of fridges and other electrical items and inert waste such as soil and stones.
Ben Hocking, Area Environment Manager for the Environment Agency in Yorkshire, said: “Illegal waste operations impact on the environment and the lives of local residents and I’m pleased this site has now been fully cleared.
“This should serve as a warning for landowners that if you allow illegal waste activity to take place on your land we will take action. We are cracking down across the sector on those flouting the regulations.”
The Environment Agency say it is stepping up action on waste crime as part of its new 10 point plan. This builds on existing work to improve detection and deliver more consistent enforcement.
