Iberdrola has reached 5 million megawatt hours of electricity sold in Italy through long-term Clean Power Purchase Agreements.

The milestone follows the signing of five new agreements with major Italian companies operating in sectors including chemicals, manufacturing and food and beverages.

The electricity supplied under the contracts will be backed by 90 MW of new photovoltaic capacity across Italy.

The agreements were signed through the Italian government’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism, designed to accelerate renewable energy development and provide businesses with more stable electricity prices.

The initiative also aims to support industrial decarbonisation and reduce exposure to volatile energy markets.

Iberdrola said the agreements strengthen its role as a strategic industrial partner in Italy while expanding its long-term renewable energy portfolio across Europe and beyond.

The company has now secured power purchase agreements across multiple international markets, including Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil and Australia.

According to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2026 report, Iberdrola has led the European PPA market for the third consecutive year.

The company said the agreements form part of its broader strategy to promote industrial electrification, strengthen relationships with large energy users and support a more secure and sustainable energy system.
