The FORWARDS Festival on Bristol’s Clifton Downs will be powered by green hydrogen, as part of a pilot exploring alternatives to diesel generators at live events.
Hydrogen Power Units will supply electricity to the main stage during to the festival this weekend, which will feature artists including Little Simz, Tems and Goldie.
The deployment forms part of the West of England Clean Power Pilot, which is testing the use of green hydrogen and battery storage to reduce diesel use across the region’s live music, film and television sectors.
The initiative follows Massive Attack’s ACT 1.5 concert on Bristol Downs in 2024, which highlighted the potential for lower-carbon power at large events.
The pilot aims to demonstrate how cleaner technologies can meet temporary electricity demand while reducing emissions from conventional diesel generators.
