The Government has granted consent for the One Earth solar farm, a major renewable energy project planned across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The development, which includes battery storage and will connect to the High Marnham substation, is expected to generate up to 740MW of renewable electricity. Developers say this is enough to power more than 200,000 UK homes while avoiding 2.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

One Earth is being developed through a partnership between PS Renewables and Perigus Energy, a renewable energy company previously part of Ørsted. The project also includes environmental enhancement measures designed to support native wildlife and increase biodiversity.

Alongside clean energy generation, the scheme will provide a community benefit fund and a jobs and skills plan aimed at creating local employment opportunities.

As one of the UK’s largest onshore renewable energy investments, One Earth was classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. A Development Consent Order application was submitted in February 2025 and underwent a six-month examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

The process included public hearings, site inspections and consultation with local authorities, technical bodies and community representatives before a final decision was reached.

Matt Hazell, co-owner of PS Renewables, said: “We are very pleased to achieve this important milestone for One Earth and want to thank everyone who took part in the examination process over the last year. It is crucial for the UK that large renewables projects such as One Earth can be progressed as quickly as possible whilst also ensuring they are properly scrutinised.”

Perigus Energy Programme Manager Randall Linfoot added: “Solar energy is an essential component to enable the power system to run on clean energy and we look forward to continuing to engage with local communities and stakeholders as the project enters its next phase.”

The next stage for One Earth is securing investment approval. Construction is expected to take two years, with the project targeted for completion by 2029.
