Solar deployment has increased across every English region over the past year, following a total 172,000 across the whole of the UK.

The East Midlands recorded the strongest uptake among them with a growth of 17% and 15,981 instalments.

The South East recorded the highest number of installations so far this year, with 22,628, followed by the East of England with 18,109 and the South West with 17,539.

Similar patterns can be seen across the UK nations as Wales recorded an 18% rise, while Scotland saw installations increase by 14%.

Government figures show nearly 28,000 installations were completed in July, making it the third-highest month on record.

More than 19,800 rooftop solar panels were installed during the month alone, equivalent to one installation every two minutes.

The figures come as plug-in solar panels become legal across the UK, allowing households to use smaller systems without traditional installation.

Major retailers are preparing to sell the technology, potentially giving more households access to small-scale solar generation.
