Independent workshops will further expand their electric vehicle (EV) aftersales capabilities after Generational made its battery health testing available through 6,000 UK workshops.
The agreement between Generational and Maverick Diagnostics significantly expands access to battery condition testing beyond franchised dealer networks, giving more independent garages the ability to offer battery health assessments as EVs move into second and third ownership.
Under the partnership, Generational will supply testing kits, fulfil workshop orders and provide the software platform behind its battery health reports. Maverick Diagnostics will market the technology and provide technical support and training to workshops.
The rollout comes as battery condition becomes an increasingly important consideration for dealers, repairers and consumers.
As the used EV market grows, battery State of Health is playing a greater role in vehicle valuations, customer confidence and purchase decisions.
The companies are encouraging motorists to include battery health checks as part of routine servicing, MOT appointments, pre-purchase inspections and before selling a vehicle.

Battery health should be a familiar part of EV ownership
Oliver Phillpott, chief executive of Generational, said: “Battery health should not be something consumers only discover when they are buying a car, selling a car or when something goes wrong. It should become a familiar part of EV ownership, in the same way motorists understand the importance of service history, mileage verification or an MOT.
“This partnership enables us to put Generational’s technology into the hands of the repairers motorists already rely on. Together, we can make battery testing accessible at scale, giving consumers clear, data-backed answers in minutes.
“Our focus now is on making that innovation practical and accessible for the motorists and businesses driving the EV transition.”
Andy Brooke, chief executive of Maverick Diagnostics, added: “Workshops are being asked to service increasingly sophisticated vehicles, and EV battery condition is one of the biggest questions their customers have.
“Garages need tools that are accurate, easy to use and commercially practical, and motorists need information they can understand and trust.
“By bringing Generational’s battery testing software into our distribution and support model, we are giving workshops a credible way to answer those questions.”
Generational’s system connects to a vehicle’s OBD port and analyses battery data to produce a customer report showing overall battery State of Health and the condition of individual cells within the battery pack.
The company’s latest Battery Performance Index, based on more than 8,000 EV battery assessments in the UK, found average battery State of Health stood at 95.15%.
It also found greater variation in battery condition as vehicles age, reinforcing the need for individual vehicle assessments.
