Workers on North Sea oil and gas operator EnQuest have backed a two-year deal negotiated by their union, Unite. It involves salary increase, as well as a large increase in their offshore allowance. The negotiation has also resulted in more overtime and training day rates.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Unite has secured a significant pay win at EnQuest. It’s the latest example of why we are the leading union for offshore workers. We continue to deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for working people in the oil and gas industry.”

The negotiation follows two threatened strikes in the North Sea, across rival employers Apache (represented by Unite) and Wood (represented by RMT).

Unite industrial officer Stevie Davies, said: “Unite is laser focused on improving the working conditions of offshore workers. We are pleased that this new pay deal received the overwhelming backing of our membership as the negotiations were led by our excellent EnQuest reps.”

“It is worth noting that there was no need for a dispute as EnQuest engaged throughout.”

As conversations continue between workers, unions and employers in the North Sea, more agreements mirroring that of this one may be met.
