Energy UK’s CEO has warned that urgent action needs to be taken, following a year of conflict and record temperatures.

Speaking at the industry group’s Annual Conference, Dhara Vyas, CEO of Energy UK told delegates that this year “tackling the cost of energy for households and businesses has to be a priority” and that – despite the Government’s fiscal challenges – “failing to act risks greater long-term costs for households, businesses and the economy”.

Energy UK are calling for urgent action ahead of the Autumn budget, to be led by chancellor John Healey on the 28th October.

Ms Vyas said: “Energy security is national security, because conflict hasn’t just pushed up bills. It’s underlined why energy security is so important in an increasingly uncertain world”

She also warned against the effect of potential cuts or changes to Government energy policies – such as the Warm Homes Plan or Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate – on an already unstable sector.

Energy UK joins a growing list of industry voices calling for energy action to be included in the Autumn Budget.
