Scottish Energy Minister Stephen Gethins has urged the UK Government to provide further support for households facing higher energy bills ahead of winter.
Ofgem is due to announce its latest energy price cap for October 2026 to January 2027, with industry forecasts suggesting bills could rise again.
Gethins said rising costs were putting pressure on household budgets and argued that the UK Government needed to take action before the planned increase.
He highlighted Scotland’s role as a major energy producer and said households should see greater benefits from the country’s energy resources.
The minister also pointed to Scottish Government measures supporting energy efficiency and tackling fuel poverty, which he said had helped thousands of households reduce annual energy costs.
Gethins called for greater powers over energy policy to be devolved to Scotland, arguing this would allow the country to take further action to reduce bills and address fuel poverty.
