The chairman of EDF, Sir Alex Chisholm, has said that the UK must push to increase electrification.
At the Financial Times Energy Transition Summit, Mr Chisholm claimed that it must be welcomed by the whole country and pushed by both politicians and the sector: “We need to really embrace electrification. We must not be half-hearted about it.”
Whilst claiming that the UK and other countries are in a time of energy addition rather than transition, Mr Chisholm claimed there is a “big opportunity” to increase electrification not just in the UK but across Europe.
In agreement with the rest of the panel, he claimed that the fossil fuel replacement is “cleaner and more controllable”.
Adding to Mr Chisholm’s comment, Thomas Schulz, Group CEO of engineering and maintenance company Bilfinger, claimed that regulation was holding back clean energy.
He said: “Over regulation is a killer. Give a little more liberalism.”
The EDF chair also emphasised how important making improvements to energy efficiency is, claiming it was “critical to affordability “ in the UK.
