Used diesel Mazda CX-5s and petrol Nissan Qashqais are delivering improved results for dealers relative to other cars, according to Dealer Auction.

The remarketing platform has published data for August, showing that although the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque remain at the top of its sub-£10,000 price point margin chart, the CX-5 and Qashqai (pictured) have attained third and fourth place with respective average margins of £3,200 and £2,850. In addition, they were the fastest of the top 10 to sell on average, at 25 days and 27 days respectively.

Land Rover remained the brand with the best average margin on sub-£10,000 used models overall, ahead of BMW and Mini.

Among cars retailing at over £10,000, the Qashqai was again a strong performer, this time in hybrid form, breaking into the top 10 margins and selling the fastest on average, while Volvo retained a presence in the top three of the brand margin list.

More bids received by platform

Dealer Auction said that the total number of bids on its platform in August was more than 65,000, an increase of 10% compared with July, while the total retail value of vehicles sold remained solid at £49.7 million.

Kieran TeeBoon, marketplace director at Dealer Auction, said: “These latest results are a really positive sign for the used car market, showing strong buyer and seller activity, rising demand and continued confidence in used vehicle stock.

“The Retail Margin Monitor is a market indicator showing the potential spread between wholesale purchase price and retail market value across a volume of vehicles and the trends the platform sees, and it’s great to see the Qashqai and CX-5 making their mark.

“These movers and shakers are a clear indication that the market remains resilient, with dealers continuing to show a strong appetite for quality stock and confidence in the months ahead.”
