Chery International plans to start building fast-charging and energy storage stations in the UK from 2027.
The announcement was made at the group’s International User Summit in Wuhu, China, with Spain and Thailand also among the markets earmarked for charging infrastructure to support the growing number of customers choosing its plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
The announcement did not specify the number or locations of UK stations, charging speeds, investment value or delivery partners. It also did not confirm whether dealerships would host facilities or when the first stations would become operational.
Charging plans support UK expansion
The infrastructure plans accompany a further expansion of Chery’s UK brand portfolio, with iCaur scheduled to launch in early 2027 alongside Omoda, Jaecoo, Chery and Lepas.
Gary Lan, chief executive of Chery International UK, said: “Becoming the best-selling Chinese automotive group in Europe in September is a powerful endorsement of our cars and the dedication of our teams and partners. What we have seen at the International User Summit in Wuhu shows the next stage of that journey.
“New models, plans to bring fast-charging and energy storage to the UK from 2027 and a commitment to building more of our vehicles closer to the markets where they are sold all reflect our long-term investment in the regions we operate in.
“For UK customers, that means more choice, with iCAUR arriving in early 2027, and the infrastructure to support the growing number of drivers choosing our plug-in hybrid and fully electric models. Listening to our customers and partners in Wuhu will help shape how we deliver on that ambition.”
New models and local production
Five vehicles made their world premieres at the summit: the Omoda X concept, all-new Tiggo 7, Chery Tiggo X7, iCaur V25 and Lepas Aura concept although did not confirm UK launch dates for the production models.
Chery also outlined plans to increase the proportion of vehicles sold outside China that are manufactured locally in overseas markets.
Executive vice president Zhang Guibing said that share stood at around 48% this year. The group expects it to exceed 50% by the end of 2026, reach 60% in 2027 and rise to 70% by 2030.
The overseas production targets were presented as part of Chery’s global strategy.
