Chinese premium car brand Avatr will launch in Norway and Spain in 2027, with six models planned for Europe over the following three years.

The Changan-backed manufacturer announced its European expansion at the Paris Motor Show, identifying the 06T and 07L as two of its first models for the region.

Its planned range will include medium and large SUVs alongside shooting-brake models. The announcement did not include a UK launch date, pricing or named dealer partners, although Changan has already launched with its Deepal brand here and established a network of over 60 dealers.

Other Chinese brands have also continued to expand their brand portfolios and launching Avatr in the UK could be a logical next step.

According to a report in Reuters, Justin Li, who is heading up Avatr’s international expansion, outlined UK, Germany and Denmark as the other markets planned for launches in 2027.

Local sales and service partnerships

Avatr plans to work with local partners to develop its European sales, service and operational capabilities.

The manufacturer brings together Changan’s vehicle manufacturing expertise, CATL battery technology and intelligent vehicle systems. Its global design centre in Munich works alongside its Shanghai operation.

The European launch forms part of a wider international expansion strategy. Avatr has set a target of reaching 110 countries and regions by 2030, with overseas sales accounting for more than half of its total.

Flagship SUV previews product expansion

Alongside its European plans, Avatr unveiled the T09 concept in Paris, previewing a new flagship model series.

The concept combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with three electric motors, delivering a claimed output of more than 1,000hp.

A 71.24kWh CATL battery provides a claimed electric range exceeding 400km, approximately 249 miles, under China’s CLTC test cycle. These figures relate to the concept and do not establish specifications for a European production model.

UK dealer network offers potential route to market

Although Avatr has not included a UK launch date in its European announcement, Changan’s existing British dealer relationships could provide a pool of potential partners.

Changan UK has signed more than 60 dealers since entering the market in September 2025. Its partners include Lithia, John Clark Motor Group, Allen Motor Group, WLMG and Donalds Group.

Those relationships could give Avatr access to experienced dealer groups already familiar with Changan’s operations. However, whether they would represent Avatr would depend on its distribution strategy, premium positioning and the investment required from partners.

Changan has also established supporting infrastructure in the UK, including dealer training at its Birmingham Technical Excellence Centre and a parts warehouse near East Midlands Airport operated with Kuehne + Nagel.

That presence could offer a starting point for a future Avatr launch, although no arrangements to share these facilities have been announced.

Changan is also working with Thatcham Research on repair methods, parts pricing and technical data, while engaging with insurers to build confidence in its vehicles and aftersales support.
